We left 2007 with a lot of fondmemories and some will remain in our own closet. Looking back at how UIQ Universe is doing, I cant help myself but felt I need to booze my soul. Look, I’m not saying UIQ did not do well but we only met SE P1, Moto Z8 and SE W960 towards year end. After commercially available for 2 years, there are only 6 smartphones running UIQ 3. If this continues, it wont be good…
News from the lab. FRING, the free app that adds VOIP, presence and Instant Messaging to your smartphones (including UIQ 3) has just been upgraded to include support for AOL IM and Yahoo! Messenger. With this new addition, FRING now supports Skype, Google Talk, MSN, ICQ, and Twitter, making it one of the most “Connected” app available out there. However the voice calls has not been enabled yet for these 2 newly added functions.
If you read this blog since the beginning, I’ve been yakking about the missing financial application for some time. It seems that some UIQ 3 developers also thought the same and released an app that looks like a winner. Flying Money by Flying Bird Software (what’s with the name?) is the answer. It’s developed with one goal in mind, i.e. to assist UIQ 3 users in managing the financial aspects of their lives.
If you are a kind of person who values your properties and belongings, then you should give this new app a try. According to the developer, it’s a security app to prevent others from stealing the data inside your phone if it is stolen. You can lock your stolen phone via sending sms and a few other neat tricks under it’s sleeve.

As you guys can see, the design of this blog is changed from time to time. Actually, I am in the process of finding the right style and theme to be applied to this UIQBlog to have a unique identity and separates it from others. Hence, I keep on changing and tweaking the design. But worry not, the contents are still the same and I have not touch anything about the contents. I want a simple and elegant theme for easy reading and at the same time, possess that uniqueness of UIQ, put it simply, a UIQesque theme for this blog. Anyone has a link for cool Wordpress Themes I can visit?

After reading the review, I am more convinced about the W960’s performance is better than the predecessor W950. I had the opportunity to test it for a couple of minutes during CommunicAsia 2007 in Singapore and the built quality was excellent. But I still didn’t understand why Sony Ericsson did not include a better looking stylus, it’s cheap…cheap… cheap…
Anyway, among interesting items I found in the review was the “Whole Page View” in Opera which is not available in previous UIQ 3 smartphones from Sony Ericsson (e.g. P990). Check this screenshot for to have a look :
