  1. WinMo only?

  2. I am an Opera fan. I use Opera 9.50 on my iBook G4 and my other desktops runnning Windoze. I use Opera Mini 4.1 on my P1 as well as other dumbphones that I have. I have used Opera browser for years and IMHO, the latest desktop version is the best internet browser bar none!

However, when it comes to Opera Mobile, I dont understand many things. One of them is the delays and the complete silence of the company about it’s progress. As far as I’m concerned, Opera has many talented engineers and if they can deliver the desktop version to this level, why not get the Mobile version to be the most advanced mobile browser on the planet? Is Opera shying away from the press? Is Opera letting go it’s market to newer competitors (all those Webkit based browsers - @Web, S60 Browser, Android’s browser, iPhone’ Safari etc)? All these questions remain unanswered if Opera keep on zipping their mouths.

WIth all due respects, Opera Mini 4.1 is a beautiful product and a marvel in terms of engineering. But it’s not a full fledged app. It’s only a viewer and interface to another app running in Opera’s server.

Opera Mobile, whether for WinMob or Symbian, need to be years ahead of the competitors. All the ooohs and aahhs about iPhone’s Safari is actually nothing compared to what Opera Mobile 9.5 can do. But Opera needs to get their acts together and release something officially before people gets tired, waiting and waiting with no concrete details.

On the desktop, Opera looses to Firefox not because Firefox is better. But Opera did not take the opportunity years ago. And if they are reluctant about Opera Mobile this time around, they will loose again to Mozilla Fennec, Webkit, or even Skyfire…

Come on Opera, give us Symbian/UIQ/S60 users OUR internet…

  3. Yeah ! very interesting . I have read this :

Anyway, i must tell you guys that an esato user just bought a prototype G702, aka beibei, with the explicit intent of rippint its software apart, namely extracting the opera 9.5 build that its running on it (and paris, the other canceled model). So expect that build to be shared in the next weeks

  4. Is Opera 9.5 java? Isn’t java supposedly made to run to all platforms?

  5. No it is not java… The opera 9.5 should be upgrade of the built in Opera browser 8 of the Sony ericsson smartphones :)
