  1. In boygeniusreport he says it’s a flapship not flagship LOL!

  2. Happens to the best :D

  3. Just the mention of “probably version [UIQ] 4.0 or higher.” shows it’s a boggus rumor, IMO.

  4. This sounds highly like the rumoured “super Skarven”. It’s been a fairly open secret for a while now that Skarven (GPS, WiFi, 5MP, non-touch, UIQ3.2) won’t ship in it’s current form and Texel will ship earlier instead (Texel is a cut down Skarven) - this rumour seems to suggest that “Alexander” could be the new Skarven.

  5. Hi Stu! But how to analyze this in light of today news??? Well…i think SE and Moto will keep their existing projects untill the new Symbian UI is ready, but some people don´t think so

  6. I think yesterday’s anouncements put SE and Moto in a very interesting position. On the one hand, both companies have a lot of time and money invested in UIQ (even though UIQ are now shedding 200 jobs) and they also presumably have a LOT of money invested in future devices. It seems silly or even stupid to suddenly junk these devices when it’s 18 months to 2 years before the new Symbian UI will be ready for testing on new devices. (meaning it will be more realisticly 2 1/2 years before those devices make it to market)

SE have pretty much publicly cancelled 2 of their future UIQ phones and Moto have virtually cancelled 1 of theirs. SE I believe can survive without using UIQ, so maybe will drop the platform for now (although not long term), or maybe they’ve finally realised that to challenge in the smartphone market they need an up-to-date hardware platform; whereas Moto are really up against it at the moment - they need an uber device to keep the mobile arm afloat. None of the Linux Java devices can do that right now (LJ doesn’t yet support 3G) and they’ve never really put much effort into Windows Mobile devices, leaving UIQ as their last chance. They’ve put a lot into UIQ development since the Sendo buy out and they have a very tallented crew there (even if they are making them all redundent). However, Moto’s biggest problem is their constant focus-shifting and continual delay. I really hope they get Texel out the door before October and then get the updated Skarven in shops for Christmas. Unfortunately I also doubt they’ll manage either of those dates and think that if we do see any future UIQ devices from Moto they will once again be too little too late.

  7. I agree. Fact is, right now is very hard to pinpoint what SE and Motorola will do at short term (and behond that). Even the all Symbian Foundation stuff is full of uncertainty
