Finally! Our prayers have been heard, and the fabulous Webkit engine has been ported to UIQ, resulting in a new web browser called @Web, by Digia.
@Web is based on the S60 Webkit engine ported to UIQ, but with added source modifications to improve it. Webkit features true web page rendering with HTML 4.01, Javascript 1.5, AJAX, HTTP 1.1 browsing with cookies and cache. Here are the browser features;
- Full finger touch UI
- Page control with finger
- Four zoom levels
- Intelligent Bookmark functionality
- URL auto-complete (from history)
- Automatic full screen browsing via auto-hiding Address bar and Navigation bar
- Page rotation for portrait and landscape browsing
@Web will be available in a public beta for all UIQ 3-based smart phones with a touch screen in June.

opera 9.5 is taking too much time
Well, as the skeptic that I am, I say that it’s not yet the end of the day, and all that we have so far from Digia is an intention to deliver a beta. Such intentions can go horribly wrong and are then called “vaporware”.
I don’t say that this is such vaporware, I just propose to save the jubilation for the day of the arrival of the beta.
Programming for Symbian and UIQ3 is hard, and often wonders take a little longer.

however…announcing in June that they will launch beta during June can´t be a bad sign…specially compared with opera, that in March said in their opera mobile blog that it would only take a couple more weeks…and we are now yet without any news about opera mobile 9.5…so i give a big benefit of doubt to digia

Guys, guys…
This application (Digia @Web) is still in development and the public beta is not available yet.
We dont know about it’s real features and performance until we can test it. So questions like YouTube support, where to download etc can only be answered by the developers.
Cheers!
