I´ve been saying this all over the place, its something my sources have told me before. But there are people that still think SE will only launch Xperia branded devices powered by Windows Mobile.
Well, Mobifrance managed to get a direct answer on this from Pierre Perron, Sony Ericsson France General Manger:
“Mobifrance : Xperia X1 embarque Windows Mobile. Est-ce que tous les modèles de cette gamme fonctionneront avec ce système d’exploitation ?
Pierre Perron : Pas uniquement, nous travaillons
avec tous les systèmes d’exploitation. Nous avons même des parts
importantes dans la plateforme UIQ. Toutefois, avec Xperia, nous
adresserons les utilisateurs « Experiencers ». Cette clientèle
exigeante qui souhaite toute la technologie et les innovations dans
leur terminal mobile sans compromis. La gamme Xperia sera donc enrichie
d’autres smartphones sous Windows Mobile ou Symbian ou UIQ ou autres
qui viendront compléter cette gamme.”
For those that do not understand french, Pierre Perron confirmed that future Xperia devices will be powered by WM, UIQ, or even another OS.

..am I the only one who thought he was speaking a little bit more in general, about how technology and software would migrate over to the various platforms?
I don’t know a single insider, but what I keep hearing SE is saying, is that they’re going to maintain full control over the content on the mobile phones, specially the look - the SE look - which is going to be the centerpiece of their Xperia campaign. In other words, what I read he’s saying is that they’re bragging about saving resources on using software that can be migrated to all the devices they have.
..I know I’m not very positive, and so on - but isn’t it time SE declared something more tangible than this? For example on either of several issues such as developer support for bug- reporting, api- programming on the platforms, as well as direction for Symbian? To consumer- relations, addressing consumer concerns, known bugs and lacks on the platform (..lacks which evidently harm sales, if nothing else)? And to sales- strategy in general, including seriously addressing the fact that the build- quality, along with the software- stability is decreasing all round on SE phones - something which again harm sales. And doom any ambitious projects to be failures on beforehand?
How come no one is asking them about any of this? Or SE’s representatives do not feel compelled to address any of this in their own time?

Back on 3GSM, another guy from SE said precisely the same (xperia is not sinonomous of windows mobile), and that is showed on a video. For me, its something factual, also because about my and others sources infos, but nevermind that - high ranked SE execs have said it clearly, there’s really no point in thinking all xperia will be wm devices.

yes.this phone will be released this year.by december.hope this will be christmas because sony ericsson is looking for more sale of this x1.its a nice gift…
