UIQ3.x - Jot´s not dead

It seems nowadays the cool kids just use their finger together with hardware keyboards on UIQ3 phones. I myself almost never use the stylus to write, and i have to blame the awesome P1 keyboard for that.
However, there are still reasons to go back to stylus operation, even if most things can be done with the finger. And that is why is nice to see SE still adding a stylus to all their new UIQ phones, G700, G900, Beibei, Paris, even when it was never so easy to operate UIQ phones without it (in fact, those phones are openly “finger friendly”).
Yesterday i faced a situation that showed me how much usability and potential there still is in jotpro gestures: i was testing the new core player, namely the Open URL feature, so i tried to copy a link from opera mobile into Core Player required field, only to discover the normal paste function on the context menu did not exist!! After some unsucessfull attempts of finding that menu option, i remembered an “ancient” topic from my-symbian, where copy+paste stylus gestures were refered. And so, i ended up redescovering this great Jot Character Set list and seeing how easy and effective it is to past text with a simple stylus gesture.
That said, my point is, you may not use it all the time, but learning these gestures is always a good idea, and maybe extremely helpfull in some situations (remember also when you can´t make noise texting lol)
OMG! You reminded me of my good old P800! And even my Ericsson MC218!! Yes! I’ll dig out that pen and use it with my P990 again just for fun!!
You are right in that a decent keyboard lessens the usage of the jotting to write. But as you point out here with this example, there are situations where you will dig out that pen and do it. And touching to browse, select etc. is of course a must. I’d never give up a touch device for a touchless one, that’s for sure.
Haha! It works! Ares, you’re a genius!
sorry for my stupid, how to do a copy and paste gesture?
Muy bueno!. Ares, le hiciste recordar los tiempos en que usaba al Palm, era muy comodo hacer gestos para las funciones del portapapeles.
xo, look into the link i gave
