qouiq3v4_05.jpeg

It’s published finally! My Quickoffice UIQ 3 v4 just been published in AllAboutSymbian. To share with you guys, it’s been fun doing the review and I think it’s my longest review on AAS. More than 1000 words. I recommend you guys to read it first before deciding to purchase the application. If you think it will deliver and fulfill your needs, go ahead! At the moment, it’s the most powerful office application out there for UIQ 3. Head over to “Quickoffice UIQ 3 Reboot!” for the full review! Any comments about the application are welcomed ;-)

  1. Great review as usual Asri! My only gripe with this is that i won´t replace the ROM version will it??? I will be like with PDF+, we will have the new much better version together with the older version on the phone?

  2. @Ares,

No. Actually, Quickoffice upgrade implementation is very different from PDF+. It totally replaces the built-in Quickoffice. So instead of 2 icons, there is only 1 icon after the upgrade.

How this is possible? Frankly, I dont know ;-)

    Cheers!

  3. So sorry for OT,
could you make UiQ Evangelist beeing visible in normal (non-mobile view!) too on mobiles?? Like, have a choice of that (like Esato for instance or My-Symbian).
My P990 always leads me to simple, mobile view.
    I want full…
Quickoffice 4.0 looks promising, maybe I will get it on my P990!!!

  4. One more question:
    I hope it’s compatibile with P990?
I also assume from quickoffice page, you have to purchase it?

  5. @doministry

    - Err… Are you using the built-in browser? Why dont you use Opera Mini? ;-) Alas… I will check the code and see what I can do regarding the mobile view.

    - Regarding Quickoffice UIQ 3 v4, compatibility with P990, I’m afraid I dont have the information you want because I use it on a P1.

    Cheers!

  6. @asri
    Thanks for the answer!
Of course I use built in Web!
Opera Mini is crap in terms of INTENSE usability.
It’s fine with GPRS (faster), the zooming feature is marvellous, it’s cool to use it, but:
    - Still not supports download
    - Horrible bookmarks handling
    - Only one page open at times
    - Horribly unstable (I’ve lost a lot of data because of that)
So yes, it’s going in the very right direction, but for now I don’t imagine a work with it for longer, it’s painful.

  7. Hahaha!

While I agree with some of your points, I have to disagree with the others.

i use Opera Mini on both P990 and P1 and I can tell you that on P1, it is rock stable and I NEVER experience it crashes.

it’s true that it does not support multiple pages at one time but for light browsing, it does the job very well. Do you know that I manage this blog on the move using Opera Mini 4.1? :-)

The new beta, 4.1, is signed and includes a download ability without calling the built-in browser. Meaning, you can download anything from the internet within opera Mini 4.1.

My only complaint with Opera Mini 4.1 is it cant handle secure banking sites.

Other than that, I think it’s the P990’s fault, not Opera Mini :-P

    Cheers!

  8. Hahaha

    That’s so funny!

I must agree that there are pages Opera Mini 4.1 handles much better, and it’s generally fantastic software,
BUT the option for download is screwed until now.
The funniest thing is that it SUPPORTS my bank! I’m able to make any transfer and operation on my account (Web cannot do that).
And the fact you manage the blog from OperaMini 4.1 is great - our devices really do more and more!!!
    Superb.

  9. Haha!

Managing your blog from 4.1 is great - means our devices can do more and more!
Basically Opera Mini is a fantastic piece of software.

That’s funny cos OperaMini 4.0 and 4.1 support my bank!
    Web cannot do that.
But one hint: I can do it only in Mobile view, in this case all of the windows are displayed. Unable to do the same with PC look.
It’s not P990’s or P1’s fault. It’s a matter of the browser and security applied in particular bank’ site.
P990’s ok. It doesn’t have any other problems. And the download in 4.1 is still broken (operamini forums……)
Anyway - those two browsers compliment each other :-)
    Cheers!

  10. Uuuipssss!
    Please delete my triple posting!
Leave just the last one. Sorry, I don’t know what happened….
    ;-)

  11. I ordered Quickoffice 4.0.
    Will have it soon.
On the official quickoffice website P990 is absolutely included, so…. Let’s see.
This is one of the most cruical abilities for me, since the phone is my full mobile office.

  12. The one thing that I am missing the most in Opera Mini is the ability to select and copy text from pages… it’s almost useless when you use the built in (into Opera mini) rss reader and would like to copy the link address for later viewing.

I know that in v. 4.1 it’s possible to save pages for later, but i still miss the option to select text.

By the way, i’m using the multi-signed version of Opera Mini and have chosen to always allow internet access, but STILL i have to confirm every time i restart the app… strange.

  13. Hey I have the same problem!
My 4.1 is also always asking me for permission.
    P.S. I’m gonna have Quickoffice 4.0 soon, I’m very curious…

  14. In your review you had someone bashing QO 4 for being slow.
    What’s your take on that?

  15. @Kim Nilsson

    It is called compromise.

I dont know about others, but as a person who experienced Quickoffice UIQ3 v4 development, I can say that it is NOT slow. On the P1i, QO is very responsive and fast in opening, saving files etc.

The text entry delay as mentioned in the comment is true but it’s a lot slower in the beta and I mainly use Quickoffice to view documents, not creating 1000 pages novel. A little bit of editing here and there and I never found the text entry delay a big problem.

The “Auto Capitalisation” issue has been reported to the developers. Hopefully they will fix it in the next version ;-)

    Cheers!

  16. how do i get a word file into P990i so i can edit it on the move? i got into ‘document’ but it wouldn’t allow it to open. i need to get into quickoffice but dont know how… :(
    cheers!
