Some cool UIQ 3.3 screenshots

UIQ 3.3 Opera 9.5

Things are getting more exciting for UIQ nowadays, dont you think so? The announcement of UIQ 3.3 yesterday should silence all those who talks factless assumption. You need to read between the lines in thic case. I agree with what been said by Richard Bloor of SymbianOne where he said among others “Another important aspect of UIQ 3.3 is that it will be the single version of the platform used by all UIQ licensees for their next generation of phones. Until now Sony Ericsson has been using UIQ 3.0, while Motorola both UIQ 3.1 and UIQ 3.2. “Moving both our licensees to the same version of UIQ offers our licensees better value,” says Mats. “A single code base and shared integration experience means that we can consolidate our support and make more resources available to solve common problems.”

The above shows Opera Mobile 9.5 running on UIQ 3.3. It uses the same rendering engine (called Presto) with Opera 9.5 desktop codenamed “Kestrel” and also Opera Mini 4. In which, pageloads are blazing fast. I really hope they will include Opera Link as well.

UIQ 3.3 Dashboard with Opera Widgets  UIQ 3.3 Tskmanager

The above screenshots showed the Dashboard which shows Opera Widgets, some cool mini apps which can be developed easily using a few lines of codes. I am using Opera 9.5 beta on my iBook and widgets is something really cool. Anybody can develop Widgets.

The second screenshot shows the new UIQ Taskmanager which is introduced in UIQ 3.1.

Lets all hope the next few weeks will be more interesting for all of us UIQ fans!

  2. SuperInggo,

If you read the news carefully, you will find the following sentence :

“UIQ 3.3 based on Symbian OS v 9.3 builds on the success of the UIQ 3 family, making it possible for mobile phone manufacturers to produce different kinds of phones on the same software platform, on a single code line. UIQ 3.3 includes incremental enhancements in line with market requirements, including enhanced support for operator services and extensive customization for addressing different market segments.”
