Announcing TouchCalc for UIQ 3! - Another brainchild of Rene Brunner

Ladies and gentlemen, if you are really using your UIQ 3 smartphones to the max, then you must have used the built-in calculator which is a “pain in the a$$” to use because of the tiny-weeny buttons on the screen. And the worst part, for P990 users, the UIQ 3 calculator CAN’T be used in flip closed mode. What a shame…

Now here’s someone who felt the need to use calculator on a daily basis and want to use his index finger to poke the screen, not the stylus. The result… TouchCalc  is born!

Here is what Rene said on his website about TouchCalc :-

“After an e-mail exchange with Asri al-Baker of UIQ Blog fame, who gave me the idea, I decided to write a simple and easy-to-use freeware calculator called TouchCalc as my first UIQ3 program. And here it is!

On a touchscreen phone like the SE P1i, it sports really large buttons that you can tap with your fingers without problems, if you like to do so. On the SE P990i in flip-closed mode, the four-way pad is used for entering operations and asking for the result, in the style of Calcium, a freeware calculator for S60.”

If you are frustrated with the built in calculator in your P1i, get this FREE app, install it, use it and if you have time, send some feedback about it to Rene. He needs your assistance in improving TouchCalc especially for the FLIP CLOSE mode on P990.

IMHO, Rene has shown us once again that there are still hope in the UIQ Universe. Freeware like this should be promoted, shared and used. Please spread the words about this little (but useful) tool to the world. Tell your friends about it.

To Rene Brunner, SALUTE!

  1. Wow, much better than the first alpha version! :-)

  2. What a great little app !

Thanks for the find asri, and thanks for coding this Rene !

  3. Thanks for the positive feedback!

Can somebody confirm or deny whether the program runs in flip-closed mode on the P990i? (I can’t test myself unfortunately.) Somebody over at the Esato forums wrote, without being too specific however, that it does not seem to work with flip closed.

    Thanks!

  4. It does work. I tried the first very early alpha version you sent Asri, because he had no phone to try it out on. It did work :-)

  5. A question: To start TouchCalc with flip closed on the P990i, do you need to configure something to make this possible? I received mail from somebody with a P990i who says that after installation, with flip open, all is ok, but with flip closed, the program is nowhere to be seen and thus not startable.

  6. Start it in FO mode and quickly close the flip while the application starts up.

  7. I have a new version 0.91 up now that after install appears automatically in the Tools folder in FC mode, so no more problem to start it there.

  8. hi, does touchcalc do digit grouping? if not, which one does? my work needs speed and digit grouping helps
