My hope and wishes for a better UIQ Universe in 2008

We left 2007 with a lot of fondmemories and some will remain in our own closet. Looking back at how UIQ Universe is doing, I cant help myself but felt I need to booze my soul. Look, I’m not saying UIQ did not do well but we only met SE P1, Moto Z8 and SE W960 towards year end. After commercially available for 2 years, there are only 6 smartphones running UIQ 3. If this continues, it wont be good…

I wish (and hope) the following things to happen to UIQ Universe in year 2008 (in not particular order) :-

1. More UIQ 3 smartphones from SE, Moto and other UIQ licencees

2. If SE is going to release powerful UIQ 3 smartphones, please, please, please include at least 128MB of RAM

3. Processor. At least, 400MHz

4. Lower the price. Everything skyrockets nowadays.

5. A clamshell UIQ 3 smartphone ala Psion Series 5mx would not hurt. In a smaller package

6. Include all multimedia codecs, audio and video (if not all, most). It gets more and more complicated with competing standards like H.264, AVC, MP4, WMV, AVI etcetera

7. More friendlier to the blogosphere and the internet. They are your unsung heroes and loyal armies

8. Ditch QuickOffice and replace it with something more useful and usable like Dataviz’ Docs to Go or even move a step forward and get SoftMaker to port their SoftMaker Office to UIQ 3.

9.  Opera 9.5 (Kestrel) for mobile please… supporting FLV, and all those modern standards including CSS3, HTML5, Ajaxx etcetera

10. Errr… UIQ Lab!…

  1. I don’t think we’ll see any more smart phones from Sony Ericsson with less than 128 MB RAM.

  2. agreed…that´s that´s impossible right now, unless they go mad :)

    about the wishlist, perfect ;)

  3. Sorry, but I don’t understand point 10 - what do you mean with “UIQ Lab”?

And I also think that point 7 is well taken. UIQ is nearly invisible, as a company, at least that’s my impression.

  4. Maybe something like Nokia Beta Labs
