Waiting for a real zipper
If you received a zip file in your P990 or P1 (any UIQ 3 smartphones) email inbox? How do you open it? Let’s say you’re in a rush and your colleague just sent an important email with a couple of documents zipped in a zip or rar file, how do you resolve it? Chances are you wont be able to open the rar file directly inside your P1.
Well, honestly, there’s no dedicated UIQ 3 app to handle zip, rar, and other compression itechnology like 7zip, ace etc. Sad but true…
If S60 users can use Handy Zip from Epocware (it is included out of the box!), why it’s not been developed for UIQ 3 yet? Although Handy Zip is limited to Zip only, it’s better than nothing aint it?
Despite the lack of applications for UIQ 3, actually, there’s a solution to deal with compressed files. But it’s not a standalone & dedicated app. X-Plore’s LonelyCatGames can be used to open zip and rar files as well as create zips. It might not win in the design department but for extra functions, it’s good to have something to be used when needed.

Another solution is using Malcom Bryant’s Java app called jZip which is free and does what it says pretty much without fuss.
However, I encourage UIQ 3 developers to accept this challenge and develop a universal compressor/decompressor tool which functions like my preferred desktop tool 7Zip. It’s fast, integrates very well with the system, doesn’t eat lots of RAM when doing it’s job and more importantly, gratis ![]()
Well, I felt a little bit weird when thinking about SE’s UIQ 3 smartphones because surely it can do a lot but it also CANT do a lot, like unzipping files out of the box. Er… Can you call that smart? Can you call that real business tool? Please… Enlighten me… ![]()
Did you find any other zip tool for UIQ 3? Let me know ok.
