Launch apps faster with Longcuts
From it’s official website LongCuts is “a UIQ 3 utility which binds launching of applications to predefined hotkeys. In real life, it’s actually a keyboard mapper to launch applications. For example, you can press and hold the “M” key on the keyboard to launch Messaging. Very handy if you ask me ![]()

With LongCuts, there’s no need to dig deep into UIQ 3 application launcher (aka Main Menu) to find application that I want to use. But there’s a challenge here which could be a daunting task for some people (including yours truly … ahem …
). In order to use LongCuts effectively, it needs to be always running in the background and… the biggest is to memorize which key is mapped to launch application.
For example, I mapped “B” to launch the built in internet browser (Opera), and I also have set “M” for Messaging and “S” for Control Panel (Setting). I have a hard time finding the appropriate key for Best Message Storer which I use frequently. Which key do I need to map to launch Best Message Storer?
In terms of ease of use, LongCuts is soooo simple it made me failed to comprehend that I need to press and hold the keys responding to apps in the LongCuts screen setting. How that happened, it escaped me… But it is that easy to use, just configure and leave it running in the background. Whenever you want to launch application, just remember the key and press it… Voila! It’s launched!
Another important thing about LongCuts is about the Symbian Sign process. In order for you to be able to use it, you must first Symbian-Signed it or else, it wont even pass the platform security check and cant be installed. If you are not familiar with Symbian Sign, go to http://www.symbiansigned.com
Hi Asri, sorry… is this process complicated? I don’t understand what I have to do to sign LongCuts I’m downloading some info which is 6.48 MB… There is any simple form to sign this appl?
Thanks
Er…
Signing Symbian applications is kinda complicated right now. Unless you really need it, I think you can try other applications that dont require signing like GDesk or Swiss Manager Pro.
There are a lot of guide on how to sign applications but you really need to spend some time digging the required information.
Cheers!
I would like to have this appl, but I really don’t have much time. Thanks Asri, I really appreciate.
